San Clemente Project

The San Clemente Project

A Once-in-a-Generation Restoration

The Basilica of San Clemente is undergoing a landmark restoration—one rooted in faith, beauty, and historical responsibility.

This effort is being led by the Hortus Foundation, an American 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and made possible thanks to the commitment of those who recognize San Clemente not just as a monument, but as a living witness to the Church’s history and mission.

Championed by generous American philanthropists like Jim Perry and many others who share the same vision, the work is well underway. From the sacred art and architecture of the upper basilica to the unveiling of deeper layers of Christian Rome, this is more than preservation—it’s renewal.

This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we steward beauty for the glory of God and the good of future generations.
